The Jay Royals advanced to the Regional Semifinal game on Friday night (5/2) as they made easy work of the district 2 runners up from Bozeman, with an 11-1 win in six innings Tuesday night.
With things locked up at one run in the bottom of the third inning and Brandt Hendricks standing eagerly on third base, Coach Diamond rolled the dice and signaled in a suicide squeeze for Royal ace Myles Hammac.
...and it worked.
Jay took the lead and never looked back, blowing the door open with seven runs in the sixth inning before the game was called due to the mercy rule.
Hammac pitched a tremendous game from the mound, allowing just one run off of three hits while striking out nine in his complete-game performance.
Jay will now shift focus to the district 2 champion Altha Wildcats, who were 9-1 winners over Freeport on Tuesday night. Altha was knocked out of the playoffs in the first round last season, while the Royals went on to the state Final Four.
